The Home Depot stands behind every product we sell. If for any reason you're not 100% satisfied with your purchase, return it with your receipt for a refund or store credit.

Items Purchased in Our Stores 
For fast, easy returns, always keep your receipt. This helps ensure that you get the proper credit for your purchase, and helps our associates process your return quickly.

Returns of merchandise purchase at The Home Depot can be made at any store designated as The Home Depot. (Please note that purchases made at The Home Depot cannot be returned to an EXPO Design Center , The Floor Store, Home Depot Supply, or Home Depot Landscape Supply.)



Returns with an Original Sales Receipt within 90 Days of Purchase

  • Any purchase made by credit card will be refunded to the original credit card.
  • Any purchase made by cash or with a debit card will be refunded in cash*.
  • Any purchase made by a check that has cleared the 10-business day waiting period will be refunded in cash*.
  • Any purchase made by a check that has not cleared the 10-business day waiting period may be refunded as a store credit.
  • Any purchase made by store credit, gift certificate or gift card will be refunded as store credit.

Returns with an Original Sales Receipt after 90 Days of Purchase

  • A store credit or a credit to your Commercial Credit account may be issued for the original purchase price**.

Returns without a Sales Receipt

  • If you made your purchase in the past 90 days by credit, debit, or check, we may be able to look up your receipt for you. In this case, the same policy applies as if you had the original sales receipt and made the return within 90 days of purchase. (See above.)
  • If we are unable to look up your receipt because you did not pay with one of the options listed above, a store credit or credit to your Commercial Credit account may be issued based on the lowest selling price.

Returns of Special Order Merchandise

  • Some Special Order returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee.
  • Cancellations of Special Order merchandise may also be subject to a 15% restocking fee. See the Special Services Desk or the Commercial Desk at your nearest store for details.
  • Custom-made products cannot be returned. All sales of custom-made products are final.


Returns of Gift Cards and Gift Certificates

  • Gift cards, gift certificates and store credit cannot be exchanged or returned for cash, credit or check.
  • Any purchase made by store credit, gift certificate or gift card will be refunded as store credit.

When you purchase something on homedepot.com, we want you to be completely satisfied. If you find that you must return an item, we make it easy.

Online Order Return Policy Basics

  • Merchandise must be returned within 90 days of purchase in unused, new condition.
  • Items purchased on homedepot.com cannot be returned to any of our retail store locations (including The Home Depot, EXPO Design Center , The Floor Store, Home Depot Supply, or Home Depot Landscape).
  • A copy of the customer receipt, original packing slip, UPS return form or RGA (Return Goods Authorization) number must accompany all returns.
  • A refund will be issued only to the original credit card used for purchase.

Online Order Return Instructions

  • Use the original packaging or a strong corrugated carton.
  • Pack and tape your package securely.
  • For UPS deliveries, complete the return form, using codes to explain your reason for return, and insert it into the package. Follow the return instructions listed below for UPS deliveries .
  • For common carrier deliveries, include a copy of the original packing slip and clearly print the RGA (Return Goods Authorization) number on the outside of the box. Follow the return instructions listed below for deliveries via common carrier.

 

For UPS Deliveries
For items purchased online that were delivered via UPS, there are three ways to make a return.

  • Use the UPS return form on the bottom of your receipt to return your item. Drop the package at a UPS pickup station, and UPS will return your shipment free of charge. We'll issue a credit to the original credit card used when you placed your order.
  • If there is no UPS pickup station near you, simply call us at 1-800-430-3376. We'll arrange for UPS to pick up your package and return it to us free of charge. We'll issue a credit to the original credit card used when you placed your order.
  • If your order does not include a UPS return form on the bottom of your receipt, please call us at 1-800-430-3376. We'll provide you with a Return Authorization to return your merchandise and ensure the original credit card used when you placed your order is properly credited.

For Deliveries via Common Carrier

  • Call Customer Care at 1-800-430-3376 for detailed instructions for making returns.
  • Include a copy of the original packing slip with your return shipment.
  • Once you receive the pre-paid shipping label, call the carrier indicated to arrange for pick up.
  • You must clearly print the RGA (Return Goods Authorization) number on the outside of the box to receive credit.

    Please note that a 15% restocking fee applies to all returns except in the case of defective or damaged merchandise.

    Damaged Items and Shortage Claims
    Please report damaged or missing items within three days of receipt of your order by calling the Internet Customer Service Center at 1-800-430-3376.

    Items that Use Flammable Liquids or Gases
    Items that use flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned if they have been used because they create a safety hazard. For example, if you filled your leaf blower with fuel, it cannot be returned via UPS or mail even if you drain the tank before shipping. Please call 1-800-430-3376 for additional details.

Gift Cards
Gift cards cannot be exchanged or returned for cash, credit or check.

Additional Returns Information
The Home Depot reserves the right to request valid identification prior to accepting merchandise for a return. The Home Depot reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of certain merchandise at any time and for any reason. The Home Depot will only accept the return of merchandise purchased from stores designated by the name The Home Depot.

Purchases made at EXPO Design Center , Home Depot Supply, Home Depot Landscape Supply, Home Depot Floor Store or any other store within The Home Depot Company family may not be returned to stores designated as The Home Depot, unless the item is stocked/sold at that store.

Items purchased at a Canadian Home Depot may not be returned in the U.S. Purchases made with a Customer Agreement must be returned to the same locations in which they were purchased. See the Special Services Desk or Commercial Desk for details.

*The Home Depot may issue a check for refunds over $1,000. (Checks are mailed from The Home Depot Store Support Center in Atlanta , GA. )


**Sales tax will not be refunded on purchases over 90 days or without receipts in Massachusetts and Connecticut ; or without receipts in Massachusetts and Connecticut and Rhode Island .
